What To Expect
As with every Base Camp program, the core emphasis for The BetterHalf Living™ Base Camp is built around The Six Handholds for Extraordinary Health. Why an emphasis on fitness? We all know that compromised health limits vitality, endurance, focus and ultimately achievement. Our society has taught us that it is "OK" to slow down and live an increasingly less vital life as we age. At Base Camp, we vigorously disagree! Your Base Camp Coaches are each well past 50 years old and getting better, stronger, more vibrant…and looking forward to the most exciting time of their lives…than ever before. We want to show you how to incorporate BetterHalf Living™ mindset and habits into your second half!
But your program is your program, so your experience is designed around your goals, capabilities and specific interests.
Embedded in and integral to the success of The BetterHalf Living™ Base Camp experience is the meal plan. The quality of your nutritional support is foundational to your overall health. We can't get around it: what we look and feel like is directly related to what we put in our mouth. At BetterHalf Living™ Base Camp you will be introduced to what we call the Retro Raw Diet (learn more about the diet, click here!). Delicious, satisfying menus are carefully planned and loaded with locally grown fruit, vegetables, meats, eggs, and dairy. (Any personal preferences or limitations are of course considered.) We will teach you fundamentals for making good food choices so that you can maintain good habits and retain your fitness gains for the rest of life. And a promise: at Base Camp Campers never go hungry!
Of course, also integral to The BetterHalf Living™ Base Camp experience is your exercise program. We will incorporate your preferences for fitness activities, but will also introduce you to amazingly effective Functional Fitness Exercises in our trademark outdoor Raw Jungle Gym. Focusing on total body movements done primarily with your own body weight or using our innovative jungle adaptations, you will see fast improvements that are rarely achieved in a "normal" gym. But we don't leave out common gym exercises either! Coach Kieba has decades of experience training body builders and is known for innovative gym workouts loaded with variety and challenge; all done in our rustic – but very effective – on site gym.
In addition, we are strong believers in the "power of water" as an accelerator for every fitness goal. Regardless of your swimming ability, we will introduce you to ways to use water (in both the swimming pool and ocean) to exercise, nurture, and heal your body. Whether you are already a great swimmer – or petrified of the water, Kumu Steve is a world-class coach and is assured to take you to your next level whatever it is.
Finally, your program would not be complete without a healthy dose of Rest, Relaxation and Mindset sessions to "Reboot" and "Re-focus" your opportunities, goals and purpose for the second half. Ample time will be spent with Kumu Steve exploring how your history and experiences can be translated to wisdom – and stepping stones to an extraordinary next chapter. At the same time you will have an array of options for sights to see and experiences to indulge in that just isn't available anywhere else in the world. Whether it is a visit to explore waterfalls, volcanoes, expansive lava fields, a coffee plantation, or one of the dozens of "secret" hideaways we can show you – you will be find excitement around every corner. Want a massage? Done. What to learn something new? Hit it with surfing, ocean kayaking, paddle boarding or fishing. Beaches, scenery, fresh air and new adventures of all kinds await. Whatever your desire – just ask.
How It Works
Designing your BetterHalf Living™ Base Camp experience is simple:
Step 1 – Arrange for a discussion with Coach Kieba or Kumu Steve. We'll help you make sure that The BetterHalf Living™ Base Camp is your best choice and assure that all your questions are answered so that you know you are making the best decision of a lifetime. We'll discuss logistics, costs, details and – of course – your goals for your experience.
Step 2 – Fill out the Camper Survey and other forms your Coach directs you to and arrange to pay your deposit. The survey information is held completely private between you and your Coach and will be used to construct your ultimate BetterHalf Living™ retreat experience. Your deposit of course reserves your spot at Base Camp and gets the wheels in motion for our preparation for your stay.
Step 3 – Schedule your flight and start packing!
How Much Is It and What To Do Next
We don't play games with pricing at Base Camp so you will know exactly how much your program will cost before you say yes. Nothing is hidden and nothing is a surprise extra. Variables include your length of stay and the options you elect to choose for activities. As an average, Campers staying with us a week can expect their program fee to be between $2500 and $3500.
